![]() Peter Sramek, Canada My Father's Prague Contemporary black and white photographs with inkjet printed text and historical images; longstitch binding with walnut and leather spine and St-Armand paper covers. Photographies noir et blanc contemporaines avec texte imprimé aux jets d’encre et images historiques; reliure couture longue avec dos en cuir et noyer, et couverture en papier St-Armand. 18 x 36 x 4 cm 2006-2008 Artist's Statement: My Father’s Prague is presented in the format of a 19th century photo album or travel guide. Rather than walk past touristic sites, it takes the reader on a tour of Prague to visit places important in my father’s childhood and adolescence before his emigration to Canada. The contemporary panoramic photographs are accompanied by a commentary written by my father and photographs from his childhood. The longstitch binding incorporates a slotted wooden spine and measured sewing pattern which echoes both Prague Secessionist design and my father and grandmother’s professions (design educator and seamstress).
