Artist's Statement:
My Father’s Prague is presented in the format of a 19th century photo album or travel guide. Rather than walk past touristic sites, it takes the reader on a tour of Prague to visit places important in my father’s childhood and adolescence before his emigration to Canada. The contemporary panoramic photographs are accompanied by a commentary written by my father and photographs from his childhood. The longstitch binding incorporates a slotted wooden spine and measured sewing pattern which echoes both Prague Secessionist design and my father and grandmother’s professions (design educator and seamstress).
