Canadian Canvas
Vintage canvas-wrapped case binding; split raised maple leaf impressions on front and back covers; thirteen signatures of hand-cut bond paper.
15 x 12 x 2.5 cm

Artist's Statement: Growing up in Canada for my family consisted of canvas tent camping in the forests of Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia. These books are made from family canvas bags from the 1950s and 1960s – the tents are long gone.
There are thirteen signatures, one for every province and territory. The split maple leaf on front and back covers is to represent whatever one thinks of Canada.

Rob Richards is a part time bookbinder and gypsy helping to set up a bookbinding studio in the hills of West Virginia. He loves the smell and feel of canvas and hopes to return to the mountains of British Columbia.
