Since 1983 the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild has worked to support the development of the book arts in Canada. This web site is dedicated to that effort. The book arts include bookbinding, artists' books, papermaking, calligraphy, letterpress printing and typography, wood engraving, paper decorating, restoration, and conservation.

EXPORING MAP FOLDS with stephanie wolffHow do you bind maps or other large flat paper into smaller books? This workshop will cover ways to approach this situation. We will make a series of map folds and bind them into a simple softcover structure as a useful reference for future work. We will talk about the possibilities and limitations of fitting large paper into smaller books and discuss a variety of solutions. IN PERSON Bookbinding 1 with Tim DYCKRegistration deadline: April 19th Bookbinding I is considered the fundamental course of the CBBAG curriculum by teaching terminology, materials, tools, techniques, and foundational concepts in classical bookbinding. Students will come away with at least six different bound books. The course includes components like: setting up your workspace and tools, sewing variations, endpapers, making hardcovers (cases), and concepts of grain and warp, among many others. As a core course of CBBAG, completion of Bookbinding I will be credited toward the CBBAG Certificate of Completion.
