Art of the Book 2018 is an international juried exhibition of members’ work, opening in British Columbia in fall 2018 and travelling for two years across Canada.

Important updates regarding Art of the Book 2018               

In response to feedback from members, the Art of the Book 2018 Organizing Committee has made the following changes to the entry conditions:

The registration deadline has been moved to February 12, 2018.

Entries will be eligible if completed after January 1 2015 (changed from January 1 2017).

Up to 2 entries per category will be allowed, while maintaining a total of 3 entries per person (e.g. you can enter two works in Fine Binding and a third work in Fine Printing, for a total of three entries).

The fee for one entry remains at $75. The fee for second and third entries is now $50.

Please note: The date for entries to arrive in Victoria BC remains at April 15, 2018.

If you have already entered, and now wish to submit additional entries, please complete and submit an additional registration form. If you already entered two or three works, then you will receive a refund for the difference in cost.

Mises à jour importantes au sujet de ART DU LIVRE 2018     

En réponse aux nombreuses interventions de nos membres au sujet des inscriptions à

ART DU LIVRE 2018, nous avons procédé aux changements suivants :

-La date d’inscription a été repoussée au 12 février 2018

- Seront acceptées les oeuvres créées après le 1er janvier 2015 (au lieu du 1er janvier 2017)

-2 œuvres par catégorie par personne seront acceptées / un maximum de 3 œuvres en tout (e.g. vous pouvez soumettre deux créations en Reliure d’art et une troisième en Impression de luxe, pour trois soumissions au total)

-Les frais d’inscription sont de 75$ pour la première œuvre et de 50$ pour chaque œuvre additionnelle

A NOTER : Date limite de réception des oeuvres à Victoria, Colombie britannique, le 15 avril 2018

Si vous avez déjà soumis des oeuvres et désirez en présenter d’autres, SVP remplir et soumettre une nouvelle formule d’inscription.

Si vous avez déjà inscrit 2 ou 3 œuvres, nous vous ferons parvenir un remboursement pour le montant payé en trop.

Since its inception CBBAG has maintained an ambitious exhibitions programme, circulating shows across Canada, and participating in local book arts events like The Word on the Street, the OCAD University's Book Arts Fair in Toronto, and the Grimsby Wayzgoose, held each April at the Public Library and Art Gallery in Grimsby, Ontario.

 Important shows have included The Art of the  Book in 1988, a juried members' exhibition organized to celebrate the 

  fifth  anniversary of CBBAG, The Art of the Book '93 at the time of CBBAG's tenth anniversary, and Meister der

  Einbandkunst,  a rare North American showcase of work by members of the German Masters Guild and organized by

  CBBAG. In  addition,  CBBAG sponsored the 1989 Canadian tour of Bookwork: Form-Function-Finish in the Modern

  Craft of Hand   Bookbinding, mounted by the New York-based Guild of Bookworkers.

CBBAG also developed and circulated a multi-media exhibit titled Two Centuries of Bookbinding: Materials and Techniques 1700-1900,designed for use in schools and libraries, which travelled across the country for two years. In 1995 CBBAG was invited to organize an exhibition of Contemporary Canadian Bookworks which was shown at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

Fine Printing: The Private Press in Canada which opened at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, University of Toronto, in April 1995, toured Canada until October 1997. This was the first major exhibition of Canadian private press work to be shown in Toronto since the two seminal exhibitions of the book arts in Ontario held in 1978 and 1981 at the North York Public Library.

The Art of the Book '98, an exhibition of members' work celebrating CBBAG's 15th anniversary, opened on June 11,
 1998 at the Toronto Reference Library Canada Trust Gallery and travelled across the country for two years. The
 complete text (in English and French) and all images from the catalogue are now online.

The Art of the Book '03, a juried exhibition of members'work celebrating the twentieth anniversary of CBBAG, opened at the York Quay Gallery, Harbourfront Centre, on September 19, 2003, and travelled across Canada through 2005.


The Art of the Book '08, a juried exhibition of members'work celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of CBBAG, travelled to seven locations across Canada from 2008 to 2011.

   Art of the Book 2013 a juried exhibition of members'work celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of  

   CBBAG. The exhibition opened in Calgary and travelled to six locations across Canada through early 2015.

Also read all about the Millennium in a Box, featuring the work of thirty-five artists from across Canada, and A Book Arts Mosaic, curated by Lise Melhorn-Boe, which features twenty-six works by thrity-three Canadian book artists from across Canada. Both community exhibitions are presented in a box portfolio and is available for  for loan by small galleries, museums, libraries, schools.
