Welcome Fellow Bookbinders and Book Artists

Since 1983 the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild has worked to support the development of the book arts in Canada. This web site is dedicated to that effort. The book arts include bookbinding, artists' books, papermaking, calligraphy, letterpress printing and typography, wood engraving, paper decorating, restoration, and conservation.


Le Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (la Guilde canadienne des relieurs et des artistes du livre) soutient le développement des arts du livre au Canada depuis 1983.  Notre site web est un élément important de cette démarche. Les arts du livre comprennent la reliure d’art, les livres d’artistes, la fabrication de papier, la calligraphie, l’impression typographique, la gravure sur bois, la décoration du papier, la restauration et la conservation.

    This little trio of panoramas is sure to warm the heart of your favourite Valentine – or put a smile on the face of a loved one! These cards are based on the Hedi Kyle structure called the Panorama Book.

    Traditional Japanese Stab Binding

    With instructor Marilyn Book

    ONLINE using Zoom, Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021

    The focus will be on the 4 foundational Japanese stab bindings stitching patterns: the Four-Hole, the Nobel, the Hemp-Leaf, and the Tortoise Shell. Once you have mastered the four foundations, you will be amply prepared to experiment with your own design for stitching patterns.

    The Booklet – A Crossed Structure Binding

    With instructor Stuart Hill

    ONLINE using MS TEAMS, Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021

    The Cross Structure Binding (CSB) is a book structure in which the cover is attached to the text block as it is sewn. The Booklet CSB creates stiff covers for times when the contents are minimal…very suitable for small collections of pages. The cover is a single piece of paper that is folded and cut as the book is assembled.

    The CBBAG Nominations Committee is seeking nominations to the board of directors for the following positions: 

    Secretary; Treasurer; Director-at-Large (2 vacancies)

    These positions are for a two-year term and all nominees must be members of CBBAG in good standing. All nominations must be seconded and include an agreement from the nominee to stand for election and to serve if elected.

    All board meetings are held by Zoom, generally on the second Monday of the month  at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT (8 to 10 meetings per year).

    CBBAG Aprons Available for Sale

    Natural cotton aprons with front pocket are available for sale:

    Canada - $20 each plus $10 postage; US - $20 each plus $15 postage; Overseas - $20 each plus $18 postage

    All prices in CDN funds.

    CBBAG continues to offer bookbinding education through its Home Study Programme during the Covid-19 pandemic. Visit the Home Study page to find out more information.

    Facebook Pages

    CBBAG has a Facebook group page, which is private to Facebook users only. This group allows for community interaction and discussion and is a great way to network and see what other bookbinders are up to!

    CBBAG also has a public Facebook page. This will be a source of news and information related to CBBAG and to the bookbinding world.

    In addition, several CBBAG regional chapters have Facebook pages with information on those chapter activities. Please visit the Regional Chapters page and click on the link for the chapter you are interested learning more about.

    CBBAG DVD Loan Programme

     The Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild has a lending library of DVDs available to CBBAG members for the cost of postage (outgoing and return) only.
