The Artful Pop-Up: A 5-Page Accordion Pop-Up Book with End Covers

Instructor: Helen McCusker

Location: CBBAG bindery

Duration: 2 Days, Saturday & Sunday, Sept 10 & 11

Hours: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Course Fee: $185 members / $245 non-members

Materials Fee: $25 payable to instructor

Prerequisite: none

Using decorative, and hand-painted papers, students will learn to make a variety of nested parallel-fold pop up pages: symmetrical, asymmetrical, and slotted. Students will explore ways to design their pages using paper punches, collage, tearing and mark-making in order to create one-off art pieces. Students may choose to work with a theme, such as colour, texture, a series of similar images, or they may see where their fancy takes them as they create their pages. The instructor will supply a few theme ideas with imagery to support them. The finished pages will be bound between decorated end-boards, with ties, to create an accordion book that can be displayed as a ‘star’ book, or stretched out. The book can be collapsed and tied together when not on display.
