The Cross Structure Binding is an alternative book structure that utilizes limp covers. The technique uses no adhesives, so is an ideal method to cover historic material. For the book artist, the structure allows you to play with the weaving patterns of the straps and the mixing of different cover materials. A great structure for leather covered journals.
In this workshop, you will first model several different CSB structures and finish with making a CSB of your own design utilizing a variety of materials.
Stuart Hill has studied bookbinding with CBBAG under the guidance of Betsy Palmer Eldridge, Don Taylor, Dan Mezza and Rose Newlove. With a background in engineering and architecture, his keen interest is in the discovery of book structures. Please visit Stuart’s website: www.georgehillco.com
