Originally inspired by theatrical stage sets in the mid 18th century, a tunnel book is charming and magical. Its structure of accordian fold sides and a series of lined up cut paper panels creates a 3D illusion of depth and perspective. Openings on each panel allow the viewer to see through to the back and images on each panel work together creating a scene inside.

Often depicted figuratively with landscape & interior scenes, our tunnel will focus on an abstract non-representational form using geometric and organic references..

This one day workshop begins with quick study maquettes exploring multiple possibilities. Participants will learn the construction of the tunnel book and how it can be adjusted for a various effects. Playing with elements of design: colour, shape, pattern, repetition, size. balance and texture, participants will work toward a design solution for their final creation.
