Limp Vellum Bindings

Instructor: Betsy Palmer Eldridge

Location: 24 Castle Frank Cres (Castle Frank Subway Station)

Duration: 3 days: Sat., Sun. & Mon February 17, 18, & 19

Hours: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Fee: $315 for members / $375 for non-members

Materials fee: $50 payable to the instructor 

Prerequisite: Bookbinding 1 or permission of instructor


This three-day workshop will introduce several variations of the limp vellum structure, a very common structure in the 16th and 17th centuries. Participants will make two models, paper and vellum.


Betsy Palmer Eldridge apprenticed as a bookbinder in Hamburg, Germany, studied finishing with Jules Fache in Paris, and worked in conservation with Carolyn Horton and Associates in New York in the 1960s. She has had her own Studio in Toronto since 1975, and has taught courses and workshops in bookbinding and conservation since 1984. She has been active in professional organizations both nationally and internationally.
