Sixty Sewing Structures

Location: 24 Castle Frank Cres., Toronto (Castle Frank Subway Station)

Duration: 2 1/2 days, Friday evening, March 16, Sat. & Sun, 17 & 18

Hours:  Fri. 7:00 -9:30 p.m.; Sat. & Sun 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Course Fee: $290 members / $350 non-members

Materials Fee: $50.00 payable to instructor

Prerequisite: CBBAG certificate of completion or equivalent and by permission of instructor.

Participants will create a card file of 60 sewing structures as collected in the sewing compendium of techniques from different bookbinding traditions. The structures will be evaluated for their particular strengths and weaknesses, and their suitability for various applications.


Betsy Palmer Eldridge apprenticed as a bookbinder in Hamburg, Germany, studied finishing with Jules Fache in Paris, and worked in conservation with Carolyn Horton and Associates in New York in the 1960s. She has had her own Studio in Toronto since 1975 and has taught courses and workshops in bookbinding and conservation since 1984. She has been active in professional organizations both nationally and internationally.
