With the Fukurotoji (stab) binding getting so much attention, many other wonderful Japanese binding structures are often ignored.
Spend the day being guided and experimenting with structures such as: Orihon (flutter), Yamato (ribbon tied), Detchoso (butterfly), Tetsuyoso (multi-section) or maybe one of the accounting structures.
A wide selection of materials will be available to make each book special for the binder.
Finish the day by making a Chitsu wrapper to hold your collection together.
Stuart Hill has studied bookbinding with CBBAG under the guidance of Betsy Palmer Eldridge, Don Taylor, Dan Mezza and Rose Newlove. With a background in engineering and architecture, his keen interest is in the discovery of book structures. Please visit Stuart’s website: www.georgehillco.com
