In Person Workshop: Repair & Restoration with Rose Newlove

The first half of the Repair and Restoration workshop will focus on 19th and 20th century cloth case bindings: how to identify them, what problems they develop, and how to repair and restore them.

This second half of the restoration core course will focus on leather bindings of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries, the deterioration problems they develop, and the various techniques currently used to repair them.

Participants must bring their own materials to work on - in particular a cloth-bound and leather-bound book. Participants will be contacted prior to the workshop to ensure that the materials they are planning to bring to work on will be appropriate.

Repair and Restoration is one of the core courses required for the CBBAG Certificate.

Rose Newlove is a graduate of the Fleming College conservation program and works as a book and paper conservator in Toronto. She has studied bookbinding at CBBAG with Don Taylor and Betsy Palmer Eldridge and at the American Academy of Bookbinding with Don Etherington.
